The reason people can get away with child abuse is because children don't speak out about what's happened to them. Not speaking up and keeping the abusers "secrets" plays into the abuser's hands. This is what abusers rely on. The more people speak out the better. No one likes to think that a loved one could be an abuser because to them they only see the good side of a person but "nice" people abuse. There will always be some who bury their head in the sand and look the other way and disbelieve what's going on right under their noses. There will always be some who falsely accuse as well but I think the vast majority of those who say they have been abused have been. Whatever your view on Micheal Jackson, surely just the simple fact that it's got us talking about the subject is a good thing. Even if initially you are not believed, the fact that you no longer have the burden and responsibility of carrying such a weight must make you feel better.
