I knew what to expect with this "adaptation" and still the disappointment weighs upon me heavily. The compulsory praise for the coerced diversity and feminist chatacterization are supported in the 5 star reviews and not in mine. A period piece such as Persuasion still requires a veracious account of the time and culture it represents. If they had set this in modern times it would have been far more tolerable. The casting of Louisa, William, Beth, Mary, Sir Walter and Lady Russell saved this movie from total ruin. Although maybe not perfect for the roles they played their capabilities in their chosen profession were respectable. This film overall was devoid of all the heart-rending subtle depth and character development of the novel. It was quite bad really. If you want to truly feel Jane Austen's vision for Persuasion watch the 2007 TV-Movie adaptation with Rupert and Sally. It will take your breath away and will always be the Persuasion to beat.

It's a series that takes five instant hotel owners or inheritors, sends them all to each others hotel for a night and rate the house, location, cost, and night sleep. In my opinion this is a HORRIBLE way to judge a winner in a competition. Whose bright idea was it to have the competition judge the competition?! Obviously there is going to be abuse there. I just have to agree with the other comments regarding the disgusting human beings, and the nice ones getting walked all over. In the end I felt the right place won but that had a lot to do with the professional balancing out the score. IF you can get passed the catty and ugly personalities.
