Full disclosure I didn’t know this was a novel first and knew nothing about it until I stumbled across it on Amazon. It looked like an sweet hallmark movie so I thought I’d give it a go. I’ve never seen anything quite like this movie. It has a Christian theme and light filming and costumes, but has very dark scenes in it that surprised me. It started out with a very hallmark-y vibe the costumes were cheesy and everyone was too clean the filming and everything just screamed hallmark but the main actress was AMAZING. I wish she could have been Fantine I’m Les Miserables she was so believable. She plays a prostitute who was sold into it as a child that gets rescued by a farm boy who falls in love with her. Starting out I immediately thought uhhh he’s never touched dirt in real life there’s no way I’m going to believe he’s a hard working farmer but he’s a decent actor too and he really grows on you. It’s a Christian movie and had a really good message however there was a lot of dark stuff that just kind of comes out of nowhere and surprised me every time because it’s so hallmark-y. Most of the rest of the actors are all really good as well. The love story is pretty realistic develops slowly and is cute but there were parts that dragged on and the love making scenes just went on forever which was also odd and uncomfortable. One other critique is I didn’t like that is plays into the fantasy of rescuing people from rough lives because you can “fix” them however it did a good job of her staying true to her character and not being like “ok all my trauma is all over because now I’m in love” she runs away like 3 times and isn’t just changed over night which I liked. I also wish instead of asking her to marry him immediately he just told her to come to his farm where she’d be safe because he feels compassion for her and then they fall in love. The marriage thing seemed strange since he didn’t know her any better than the other men lusting after her when she was a prostitute. Either way it’s worth watching mainly because the acting and story line is really good.
