I loved the movie. I thought that there were some common war movie clichés but they work. One of the major complaints about this movie is that the characters aren’t given enough backstory but I think it’s what makes it so good for me. To me this movie kind of shows the stories of background characters in war movies and brings to life morally complex characters and it shows that not everyone is perfect. You know, the cannon fodder we see die in the background. Goon’s and Gordo’s behaviors are questionable but they’re still supposed to be the good guys.I think this story highlights just those kind of men. Those that are heroes but don’t really have the same recognition that other heroes of WWII movies have.
SPOILERS BELOW:
Saving Private Ryan shows a similar story and some members of Captain Miller’s(Tom Hanks)squad were given harsh deaths, and with Wardaddy’s(Brad Pitt) squad , it’s similar and rather quick - which is why I think Fury is so good. Although SPR humanizes the characters a lot better, Fury still does a good job. Even if it’s too Hollywood.
