I don't normally write reviews, although I want to try and change that going forward.
Wednesday really moved something inside me that made me want to let anyone having a doubt about the show; to give it a try. I've always been a fan of the Addams family franchise since I was a little boy growing up back in the box TV days watching Saturday morning cartoons. The animated cartoon had a sense of eeriness to it that hit the sweet spot. The motif, colour scheme, jokes, characters, spooky references all balanced spooky with comfort, I'm sure those who watched the animated series can relate to me.
Having said this, I was definitely skeptical going in, the trailers leading up the show did do a good job, but past experiences have left me a little burnt. I'm ofcourse talking about all the spin-offs that havent hit the mark, im looks at you Scooby doo!
But Wednesday brought a breath of fresh air to the franchise. Really maintaining the true essence of the show. I can't think of anyone else as a director for this show than Tim Burton .
He truly understands the genre of the eerie, odd, macabre, ikky, and a little bit kooky. I was especially fascinated by the modernization of the characters with just enough to let you know that this isn't a period piece, but we still have tiktok trends and filtered selfies. The stray away from Wednesday being on her own and focusing on her life at this school for the outcasts with her own mystery adventure, was a brilliant concept. It was different from the previous iterations with the whole family.
The plot had me sitting at the edge of my seat. I will fight anyone who says the events in the show was obvious and it was clear as day throughout the show, because the direction really took carefully account to keep the audience guessing till the end.
Without giving away too much, I'll end my little review with, it is a must watch, best show right now on Netflix.
