Jia Ling does an exceptional job directing this movie. It's more about the character arc than boxing and the last 30mins are brilliant. Wait and watch the end credits. Jia Ling's transformation and the heart and soul she put into this, makes the movie a worthy successor to Hi Mom.

Bad, unconvincing treatment of the novel. The characters are not well etched and the script and director have brought in too many social issues and treated them all simplistically.
