Generally, this movie did a great job in inclusiveness. I appreciate the diversity of characters and how their individuality were well-presented. However, there are several scenes where I couldn’t help but feel awkward towards the lines due to the fact that they weren’t fully developed before being demonstrated by the characters. For instance, when the protagonist Jordon said: “I’m brave enough not to do this” while holding a gun against Owen, I was perplexed at first and still couldn’t comprehend what he meant by that line. Also, since gender freedom is a core theme of this film, I was expecting to see more nuanced portrayal of the emotional intimacy among the characters, yet all of the “intimacy” I saw were physical, which made crude the emotional connection in the couples. Finally, while I kind of understood what was supposed to be presented by the conflict between Molly and Jordon (fight for freedom with hatred vs. forgiveness), I still think this contrast wasn’t stark and complete enough (in fact, it should be one of the most important scenes in the film).
