I have been thinking a lot about the characters and the connections they all have together in the period it is set in and most importantly the place is set in.
I have watched both seasons now and I have to say that this show is really incredible.
Sometimes when I watch movies and shows I catch myself thinking about what's happening behind the cameras with the crew and the actors preparing for their scenes. That kills my ability to become immersed in the story.
I haven't done that with this show.
The acting in this show is exceptional. I recall watching Tony Shalhoub years ago in "Wings" and he was hilarious then. Rachel Brosnahan has totally become Midge in my eyes with her timing in all aspects of the life of Midge. She's funnier in her everyday life than what she offers on stage.
Susie is the star of this show though. Yes she has the F word close at hand, but her delivery of crude language is spot on and totally genuine. I have laughed out loud to her character more than all others and I sometimes feel like she should be the one on stage.
Joel is another great character who has been given so much more depth. The chemistry between he and Midge is one of the keys to the story that has yet to be fleshed out.
I'm looking forward to seeing how Midge will be able to remain connected to her family and especially Joel in future seasons. The comedy aspect of the story is just a supporting layer of a show that has many. The relationships between the characters, and the portrayal of the period in The Big Apple are what this show is all about.
9/10 for this home run.
