I am of the opinion The Stoning of Soraya M is a must watch for judges, prosecutors and police officers. It is a heart breaking story that reflects realities faced by so many people who find themselves on the wrong side of the criminal justice system globally. It highly recommend this movie to judges, prosecutors and police officers because it is so easy for persons within these categories to lose touch because they spend more time that the average person dealing with the “evils of humankind”. This movie is a staunch reminder that not every accused is guilty. “Innocent until proven guilty” is not merely “semantics”. People lie for many reasons and people will lie to secure convictions. It is easy for justice systems and the majors players therein to be manipulated by people with ulterior motives, but it is incumbent on all players to execute the functions impartially, thoroughly and according to the legislative framework that seeks to protect the innocent from wrongful conviction. This movie is also for parents and guardians. We need to raise our children to be truthful because lying can cost people their livelihoods, lives and families. There are so many social issues raised in this movie. It is regrettable it is based on a true story. To Soraya M’s mother, I am sorry you lost your daughter. I thank you for sharing her story because it really touched me as a professional and as another human being.
