As it happened, I watched the movie prior to reading both the poor ratings, and associated reviews. While I'm happy to state that I didn't pay a dime to see this in a theater, I must honestly say that I enjoy watching it when it appears with some regularity on cable. I found that David Spade's portrayal of the lead character had moments of predictable humor, but overall there was a sweetness shown throughout. He seems quite aware that he offers an easy target of ridicule for many people he meets as his lifelong quest to find the parents, who abandoned him at the Grand Canyon at the age of 9, is chronicalled in the years leading up to his adulthood, where he finally discovers the truth behind his solitary journey through life. And, I must admit, Brittany Daniel is ever so easy on the eyes. While not in the same league as the better Adam Sandler films, Spade comes across as an enduring, and endearing optimist, who is easy to root for throughout his search.
