I have only seen this film in French and I remember thinking this is not making much sense. When I read the book it became clear. In my opinion the director left out and changed too much for it to be called Anglique and the Sultan. That being said Michelle Mercia is fabulous unlike the rest of the cast imo are miscast ie the chief eunach is a black man not a white frenchman, Mulay Ismail is a cruel sadistic tyrant used to getting his own way not weak young man The book all explains this even the gruesome deaths inflicted by the Sultan on his slaves and enemies. In all worth watching but only for Michelle.

After 45 years having a former lover return albeit in a block of ice perfectly preserved must be quite a shocker. Kate uncovering the hidden truth of her husband's girlfriend through old transparencies was a brilliant bit of detective work. The thought of Red Len living on the Algarve and playing golf every day with his banker son-in-law made me smile. A good film and excellent acting by all even the dog Max barked on que.

I came to this late in the second series and it just blew me away. So brilliantly written and so gloriously filmed. Pheobe is deliciously rude and shocking. The whole cast is simply spot on. Dame Olivia Coleman is terrific as the batty villianous scheming artist stepmother. Such a joy to watch.
