Mahatma Gandhi said, “an eye for an eye will make the whole world blind.” But even his assassin was hung. And the culprits of such a heinous crime were provided charter planes to return home. That dialogue (or something like that) stuck with me. It is so difficult to enact a story that everyone knows. What an uphill task it must’ve been for the makers and the actors! I don’t know if there were such heroes out there on that fateful night, as depicted in the ‘Railwaymen’, but as a human it just feels a little reassuring to see humanity still alive.
Furthermore, the story doesn’t only depict the Bhopal Gas Tragedy but also Indira Gandhi’s assassination and the turmoil it had caused for the Sikh community of India (only vaguely though). Two important lessons of history intertwined together, now that’s what you call story telling!
And the performances— excellent, enthralling, beautiful!!
