I came across this book on my overdrive app. I had middling expectations, but I was dead wrong. This is a study of genius and mania from an empath genius channeling her source with grace and brilliance. This is a lovely and moving collection of prose, 1st hand accounts, and quotes from a genius author as he/she battles through mental illness while having the words to put truth to an all to often misunderstood disease. Imaging having the best rhetorical mind of a generation giving a recount of his /her disease before, during and after treatments for that disease exist. This is a walk through a garden you have never seen and cannot understand unless you live in that secret garden. Lowell and Jamison give you the empathy needed to glimpse the world of genius and mania. The love for the source comes through Jamison’s writing and she does an unparalleled job showing why Lowell’s life has so much to tell us in the modern day. Purely lovely and deeply profound. Please read this, it changed my life.
