Finally got around to watching one of the more famous horror movie series, and I have to say it underwhelmed in every way possible.
The acting was obviously cheesy and poorly done— offbrand will arnetts acting in the first half of the movie led us to believe that he was either having an affair or trying to sleep with his distressed wife the entire time. Bad acting is not inherently a turn off in a horror movie, but this was just bland in a sad way.
The plot was a crayon-sketch of the Poltergeist, and it genuinely seemed like the crew bought all of their props from party city (including the costumes). The Big Bad was terrifying to look at, but all it did was scuttle around and click and chase everybody around. Spiders in my bathtub have terrorised me worse.
The “Further” adventure seemed like a carnie haunted house attraction with tiny disjointed characters in each room— random spirits with no plot points other than “oooooh spooky!” with their dollar tree costumes and fog machines. The climax of the movie when the demon is sharpening his nails is straight up funny— it just looks like he’s getting ready for his girls night out while blasting his tunes. This whole movie felt like one of the worse Supernatural episodes back when they were still trying to be scary. Dont waste your time unless you want something to make fun of.
