I watched episodes 1 and 2 of Ahsoka with no prior knowledge of Rebels or Clone Wars. Verdict, I thought it was bland but the lore piqued my interest thus I binged Rebels.
After watching Rebels, I watched episode 3 and 4 of Ahsoka and I felt the show was even more disappointing. I liked the fact that Ahsoka is essentially season 5 of the Rebels. HOWEVER, the show completed stripped Sabine Wren's character. In the animated series, she was a strong individualist who's also a weapon engineer, skilled mandalorian, sharpshooter, bomb expert, bounty hunter, artist and rebel. In Ahsoka, she is a rebellious and immature brat who is now a liability. Her fight scenes make no sense. I understand that she is learning to use the force and the lightsaber... but she should be capable of holding her own using guns, bombs and mandalorian tech. I can say the same problem lies in Ahsoka and Hera as well in the live action series.
The only saving grace for this show is the plot and action sequences.
The most important criteria of adapting to live action is to keep the SPIRIT of the characters. Ahsoka unfortunately fails to deliver the charisma from the preceding animated shows.
Rating: 2/5
*Edit - Finished the series. The last few episodes was phenomenal. Ezra and Ahsoka redeemed the show in terms of their spirit. I am still on the fence regarding Sabine's character. Thrawn was menacing as ever. I will recommend this show.
