This could have been a really good movie if it were not for the lack of strong character development. As a writer, I understand the importance of creating complex characters, but you ALWAYS have to have a character arc so that even if the audience hates them, in the end their feelings might change. The male protagonist’s character was straight up underdeveloped. He was like a purse added to an outfit. His character was one dimensional. If it weren’t for his looks, you’d wonder why he was even there. Then there was the female antagonist. There appears to be an attempt to pander to the feminist audience by creating a character with zero feminine qualities and who castrates her romantic interest at every opportunity. She was a self serving selfish, cold hearted and egotistical Karen in all of her relationships. Everything was about her. She skipped out on the male protagonist not once, but twice, which is usually reflective of the playboy archetype! She couldn’t even be there for her friend, the bride because she was so busy scheming up a way to get in the male lead’s bed again. She was a piece of work. What could have turned her character around was at the moment when she was lightening the plane load and had to get rid of the excess weight. When she got to the deceased pilot she chose to kick him out (literally) of HIS own plane! The witch chose to keep the freaking rum over giving a man, who was supposed to be her friend, a decent burial. How evil is that? I suppose she was scheming to drink the rum with her boyfriend once they landed so she could take advantage of him again. This film was an attempt to make a woman look like a hero, but ended up making her appear as a calculating, cold hearted, hag. Thumbs down 👎🏻
