Harrowing, powerful and British television drama at it's best. The writing is incisive and diamond sharp. Joanne Froggatt embellished her CV ,giving a quietly immense performance as a consultant in a ward struggling with an avalanche of coronavirus. The action rightly centres on the ward. Glancing, but pointed, shafts are directed towards the criminal imbeciles of Downing Street and Whitehall. In one brief scene Joanne Froggatt's character is spat upon and subjected to vile abuse by conspiracists.
The heroism of front line workers in the teeth of such obstacles is fittingly acknowledged by this extraordinary series. The appetite for conspiracies,on the other hand, thrives and multiplies. The yellers and spitters are unrepentant. Expect to see them on ballot papers in Europe and America, before the year is out
