This movie was more like a sad story regarding loss and brokenness than romantic love to me.
I was more intrigued by the relationship between Christina Eames and Isaac because it felt real. They both could have handled their relationship differently but eh...
I don't know what was happening between Mae and Michael. Their interest in each other seemed surface level and I wasn't convinced at all.
There were unanswered questions as well - like, why didn't Michael marry his previous love interest? Why was Mae willing to go against what she truly wanted (a practical local relationship)? Like I said before, their interactions didn't feel deep enough to me to warrant much of anything more than what it was - two folks looking for some type of comfort at that time.
I did appreciate the way they addressed emotionally unavailable mothers who weren't capable of showing love to their daughters in the way that would benefit them. THAT part of the movie was real because it's something many daughters of women like Christina (and her mother) can relate to.
If you want to watch a love story that feels authentic, find something else...
