This book may have some interesting and useful information, but what use is that information if nobody can actually get to it? The writing style is very opaque. He uses a needlessly complex sentence structure, passive rather than active voice, and ten-thousand dollar words for about ten cents' worth of information. The result is a book that is just dry, boring, and annoying. I had to read it for a class and got through it by making it into a drinking game. Every time a sentence started with "indeed," which is every other sentence, I took a shot of rum. I thought rum would be festive considering this book is about the trans-Atlantic region in the eighteenth century. Needless to say, I was damn near drunk by the end of chapter one.
