Hi, and spoiler alert...do not read if you don't want spoilers...
I rarely, if ever, review books. But I feel compelled on this one.
I loved "I an Pilgrim". It is one of a select few books I have kept, to re-read, (and in fact, read it for second time recently and thoroughly enjoyed it).
So, I was delighted when I saw that a sequel was out and put it on my Christmas list.
I started the book over the Xmas hols and was really relishing the detailed characters, stark landscapes and detailed information, plot and sub plots. I thanked my partner for the book because it really felt like an accompanying piece to "I am Pilgrim" and I was enjoying every bit of it.
However, about 2/3's through, the book changed massively and veered into science fiction / horror. I love horror, I'm not sure on science fiction. But what I really don't like, is expecting one genre of fiction and being thrown full throttle into an entirely different one!
.I actually said to my partner, "this feels like Quentin Tarrentino's "From Dusk Til Dawn", (in that there were two different directors and the film really did move from one film to a completely different other).
I finished the book today. I can honestly say I have never been more perplexed by a books direction than this.
It won't be staying on my shelf to re-read it. I also thankful for the first 2/3's of the book...but really wanted a proper, satisfying end to the fight against evil. Not, some fanciful "I can't be arsediTerminator type nonsense.
P s. I LOVE Terminator...but you knew what you were getting in that film.
