The first book was hard to get through especially with no real romance or smut, just sad rape and slave writing. Although written well I really only finished the first book because I was waiting for something good to happen to the regents slave with blonde hair. Honestly I wish they had killed some characters off. If I wasn't really interested in the love story between the two princes I wouldn't have made it to book 3. Luckily book two leads into their romance. Much better than the first book. Honestly I could have just skipped book one and been fine
