After a bit of a slow start, this series is really starting to take off for me! The cinematography is breathtaking and I am now starting to appreciate the time that has been taken to develop key characters. This series is about the best thing to watch right now. For all of the accolades that Jackson’s LOTR films received, I believe that the characters in this series are more complex and, as a result, are not as corny and melodramatic. I’m hoping that this all pulls together in the final episodes and makes the wait worthwhile. They had a big miss with the elder elves, though. They we’re pretty flat and boring. We also want elves - or at least expect them - to have magic. I hope that we see some more magic as the series progresses. It is, after all, a core ingredient for good fantasy film making. Overall, I like the series very much and can’t wait for the next episode every week! Unless you’re a die hard Tolkien expert who can’t tolerate the creative license that was taken with the original, the series should not disappoint.
