If you enjoyed the hunger games you will enjoy this addition to the series. The book follows Snow as a young adult adjusting to life 10 years after the war has ended; also revealing him as one of the very first mentors to the tributes. The narrative keeps you hanging on to find out how this young, confused, and over all scared boy becomes the monster we all know him to be. We see the subtle changes and interactions he goes through when faced with real decisions that paved the way to his presidency. Scattered with nods to the original trilogy and answers to some loose ends this story is captivating and thought provoking in ways an antagonist's backstory rarely is. While the ending does seem a bit rushed the overall story arc and 3rd person narrative do a great job of keeping the reader interested and questioning how everything will come together in the end.
