Virgin River exhibits beautiful scenery and is a feel good show, with quality acting for a somewhat Hallmark like television movie. The storyline starts with a Hart of Dixie vibe, provoking a deja vu moment watching Tim Matheson play another small town grumpy Doc role with reluctance and distrust of the newcomer to their quaint town, Nurse Practitioner Mel. The romantic link in this series is Jack and Mel, the main characters bond over individual tragedies of the past. Hope, Doc’s wife is a vibrant, blunt and somewhat annoying addition to the cast. The writing is enduring and keeps this series interesting. Each episode flows from the last with meaningful inner stories along with flashbacks of the lovable characters past. I feel that this really helps in connecting the characters with the audience. Overall it’s a charming series, providing an adequate break from the heavy topics over running the telly and news as of late.
