A winner on atmosphere and period detail, with some wonderful performances (I thought Dame Maggie Smith stole the show and wasn't she enjoying herself!) Too many characters made it confusing/hard to follow in places. A lot of the comic touches made me laugh but for my taste, the social satire was a bit heavy-handed, the upstairs/downstairs divide so black-and-white. In watching it I was carried along but in retrospect I found the world created unconvincing.
