The movie is beautifully shot and presented a masterclass in what the audience should feel like in a horror movie. Throughout, I felt so uncomfortable and anxious. I had no idea what was coming, and the mystery surrounding the plot kept my eyes glued to the screen.
That is, until the end of Act I. Wow. The last two acts of the movie were actually terrible. The dip into the supernatural was executed terribly, Nicolas Cage's acting was honestly terrible as well. He looked scary and showed a promising act during the opening scene, but the rest of it was cringe, loud, and all for nothing as he himself did not have any involvement whatsoever to the plot of the film. Which is incredibly disappointing as his character is terrifying.
The ending left a lot to be desired, so many unanswered questions, and possibly the biggest fumble I've seen in my entire life. Though I did just turn 20.
