I like the new series and have watched all of them. For the diversity opponents, get over it, and I'm a white male. Imagine a more or less united Earth - half of the population are women and only 25% are Caucasian-ish. The CGI is generally good, but maybe a little too "heavy". While I like the story arc approach, I wouldn't mind a more stand-alone episode from time to time to break it up. Re-watchability is limited if every episode is part of a 10-hour arc. Since we've already eclipsed a lot of the "real" technology in the earlier series, like communications devices and interfaces, it only makes sense to update with holograms, etc. If it really bugs you, note that Pike said to go only warp 5, which was near the limit in TOS (God I'm such a nerd), so take that as acknowledgement that they are trying to keep some timeline continuity. The spore drive concept was a little silly, but so is warp drive to a theoretical physicist.
