"A Little Life" was the worst book I ever read. It started as a promising story about 4 college roommates who stayed together and shared their lives after leaving college. It quickly turned into a horrible, depressing study of sexual abuse perpetrated on a vulnerable young boy. The boy was so damaged he never recovered and continued through life getting worse and worse. Wow what a great story theme! Why would someone write such a terrible book. I'm sorry I read it. People have commented that it stays with you. Hell yeah. I'm still thinking of how depressing and without purpose this story was. I would not recommend it unless you have a really good therapist.
