Hate the story. It’s weird…
Ditto on Leigh L.
I know it’s just a movie but it was hardly believable. It was crazy to me how Zara (24) was portrayed as the bad guy for not approving of the relationship between her mom, Brooke (50) and her boss/popular “hot” movie star, Chris (34.) Her boss was a man-child who treated her horribly and she witnessed first hand how much of a player he was. Plus it’s her boss. That would be weird for anyone. Her mom let him spend the holidays with them, forcing her to spend the holiday with her boss. No one would want to spend their time away from work with their boss. They portrayed Zara like she just didn’t want her mom to date anyone or be happy at all. The movie had Chris go from the dramatic man-child, player type to a thoughtful, mature man almost immediately after meeting Brooke (Zara’s mom.) There are many movies out there where a player, never wants to settle down type man meets a woman that he ends up falling for, but it usually happens overtime, not within 2.5 seconds of meeting them. The quick, drastic personality change from Chris was so unrealistic. When meeting Brooke and her telling him that she is Zara’s mom, he said “what, did you have her in Kindergarten?” She looks good, but she also looks old enough to have a 24 year old daughter. Zara had complained to her mom multiple times about how horrible her boss treated her, yet the first time her mom meets him, she gets in bed with him? The majority of mothers would not put their daughters in that uncomfortable position by getting in positions with their boss. Then when Zara tells her what kind of player and person in general he is, she doesn’t believe her, despite her working for him for two years and witnessing it first hand. Also, a 34 year old “hot” and popular movie star would be more likely to go after his 24 year old assistant than her 50 year old mother. It was very unrealistic that out of all the women out there, a 50 year old woman is what stole his heart. Sounds bad, but it’s the truth. To make it more believable, they should have made Chris 40, not 34. Efron is 38 in real life, so that would have worked. At least that way the age difference between him and Brooke would have been less than the age difference between him and Zara, making it a little more believable. And having Brooke compare their short relationship/ her feelings to those she has with Zara’s deceased father that she was married to for years and who died while they were married was pretty messed up. They definitely could have left that out. Idk. I’ve seen plenty of romantic comedies where I’ve thought “that wouldn’t happen in real life” when it comes to some details here and there, but this whole movie from beginning to end screamed just that.
