Seriously bad writing, predictable story and a main character that is so unlikeable it hurts.
While I understand what the movie was trying to do, I think that it failed to get the message across by having Neneh behave in ways that are not only completely unacceptable, but make her come across as entitled, arrogant and downright delusional when it comes to her own abilities.
Apart from the fact that the actress is objectively not as good as the other students and lacking the technique to make the whole "I'm the best student at this school but you only dislike me because I'm black" plot believable, it is basically rendered meaningless. On top of that, Neneh's behavior is not confident, she has some serious behavioural issues and should get that checked out.
This movie had potential, but it failed to deliver due to poor writing choices and a depiction of modern ballet that is full of stereotypes.
