I am giving the story(s) a 1 star not because of the writing or the story itself but due to the way it was presented by the publishers.
The story is excellent IF you are looking for a novel and want to read of the lives of the people of Gad's Hall. If you are looking for the supernatural; a good gothic tale, you are wasting your time. Gad's Hall and The Haunting of Gad's Hall have much less to do with the supernatural than the day-to-day lives of the characters. What little is provided regarding the supernatural is overshadowed by the mundane, even the final confrontation of the evil in the house is lacking. Just another day in the life of the occupants. Why the publisher chose to present the story as something other than historical fiction does an injustice to the author and the story.
