I had my doubts leading up to this games release based on what I had seen from the trailers and gameplay, and after playing god of war Ragnarok my first thought was "another copy and pasted sequel with a different story" and I'm happy to say for the most part I was wrong.
The gameplay remains much the same even down to the animations and finishers with a few new ones mixed in and while the combat does feel like a copy and paste when you first start it quickly adds more and more to it to make it feel fresh again with Peter having the symbiote and miles having evolved venom powers insomniac done a great job evolving the combat rather than playing it safe. Speaking of both the symbiote and venom powers, there are 8 for each character with 4 being used at a time giving the player a small amount of customisation to play around with along with each characters "rage" ability. Another new addition to the combat is doable and parryable attacks which at first can get a little confusing when so many enemies are attacking but quickly become muscle memory and is needed for most if not all boss fights.
I also thought the map being mostly the same with an expanded area it would get boring and repetitive roaming around the city having played both 2018 and miles before this but with the addition to the gliding and little upgrades to the swinging as well as the extremely fast, fast travel I honestly didn't even think about the city being the same.
Collectable for the platinum hunters are back but this time not as many as the first game and are even rewarding as most if not all offer a small but quick side quest once completed. In terms of side missions in general though there ain't that many, having completed the game about 3 days ago I can only really remember two that stick out to me but you'll have to play those for yourself.
Soundtrack in both the first games were something that stuck out to me and not to say this game doesn't have any good ones because it definitely does but I don't really remember any of them. Obviously soundtracks are probably the last thing most gamers think about but when done well it's sometimes the first thing they think about and this game just hasn't done that for me, again not to say they are bad but just kinda meh.
Without spoiling as much as possible the story was great, the intro was amazingly done, the emotional weight of some parts is done great and the characters are executed well. There were a few parts that I wasn't to keen on but the good parts do make up for that, Peter and mjs relationship is donde decently, Harry and Peters relationship is done pretty well, miles and Peters relationship is done pretty good overall I'd say it a pretty decent sequel in terms of the story.
I did experience a few bugs but st the time the day one patch was still downloading but I don't wanna not mention them incase someone reading doesn't have access to Internet when they get it, nothing game breaking aside from one that required a restart to fix, mostly just the character clipping through object, camera clipping through walls, subtitles out of order, and some npc glitches. The bug that I had to restart was on a mission that required you to clear the room before progressing and once the room was clear it sill wanted me to clear the room, after saving and reloading the issue was fixed.
Overall I'd say the games a great experience, I had a tone of fun with it and got the platinum as soon as I could. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who was or is also sceptical about it.
