I've watched this movie 4 times and am still unable to accurately recount the events in a correct order. While this at first may seem a criticism it is instead a testament to how brilliantly this movie creates such a spiralling effect of madness. I hate to sound so pretentious but this movie is far more than a sum of its parts and is a perfect piece of evidence to say that film is more than just a series of images.
The atmosphere is without a doubt the best I've seen in film. Everything from the aspect ratio to the colours to the production design all oozes grime and an archaic feel. I mentioned colours there because although it is filmed on black and white the cinematography invokes such texture and feel that no two colours can feel the same. That of course leads to cinematography. Every frame is a painting which has been seemingly meticulously choreographed to such an astounding extent. Then there's the acting which I can't begin to describe.
To be honest I don't know why I'm writing this review because no words can encapsulate the feeling this film gives. I think I really just wanted to write about it because it is such an engrossing world that feels hard to leave. Seriously one of the best movies ever and one that will hopefully go down as a classic
