If you are seeing this movie without having read the book, then the movie will be fine. A decent underdog story with historical significance. However, if you read the book then this movie falls incredibly short. I loved this book! How Joe Rantz was able to survive his childhood was both heartbreaking and triumphant. His resourcefulness and ability to persist is what makes this story remarkable. Besides Joe's story, there is the story of the team's development, the coach's dedication, and the craftsmanship and skill of the boat builder. I would love to see someone take this story and make a limited series event so that it can be told with the rich detail that it so deserves.
