There are two kinds of people, one who are praising the movie for its meta quality and breaking the fourth wall, other are boomers who went to the theatre expecting that Dipak Chatterjee will be showcased in the nonsensical paradox from the books. It is evident that if the director had followed the original texts, the movie would be disastrous and laughable in modern times as those innuendos were apt in the murky days of the 70s but not now when people have so many options. This is the best way the ethos of Dipak Chatterjee could have been transmitted to the modern generation. A few patches will bore you but at the same kind, it's a dark comedy and very brilliant filmmaking, one of the greatest cinematographic experiences in recent times in Tollywood. If you are expecting bookish Dipak Chatterjee, please refrain from watching and getting disappointed, it's a modernist adaptation where the character himself is disgraced for the illogical skills attributed to him by the author which made him a laughing stock to educated Bengali people. The movie is charming, the movie is thoughtful, and intriguing at the same time rediscovering filmmaking brilliance in the Bengali movie industry. Kudos to Debalaya for such a meta-interpretation and portrayal of the characters in the mundane mediocrity of modern Bengali cinema.
