Went and watched The Little Mermaid with low expectations. Melissa McCarthy was AMAZING as Ursula. Prince Eric was candy to the eyes and did a great job. I think I hated everything else about it. The movie doesn’t build the story. You have to watch the cartoon to get the significance of some things. King Triton was always one of my favorite characters growing up. He was a stern father who loved his daughters who was a little misguided. He was the king of the ocean and had to act like it. King Triton in the live action movie is soft and I hated that. Above all the stuff mentioned above… the thing that bothered me the most was the lack of bubbles. They’re in the damn ocean, where are the bubbles? Are bubbles too expensive to cgi?! I don’t know why I noticed it but once I noticed it, it bothered me the whole time. I don’t think I’ll ever watch this movie again. It’s a one and done.
