Coming of age movie about a young woman who is caught between ultra conservative religious mores where she is a "woman" at 11 and facing childhood marriage or the popular path of hyper-sexualisation ...... and eventually choosing to reclaim her childhood. It is meant to disturb and to force us to think about what society is telling young people acceptable behaviour is.... some scenes are disturbing - but not more so than other films which challenge our assumptions. Netflix did a terrible job marketing this film - which is a true story of the directors own coming of age and as she navigated Western Culture vs her own.
