Don't overthink it. Sure, the plot is somewhat predictable, but it is a fun, romantic comedy with a twist of drama. If this were a lifetime movie about a man and a woman, it might be boring. This, however, is about two influential men, and while many gay films include an overbearing element of self loathing, the book (and this film) focus on the characters and not the subject of same-sex. I highly recommend it. I think the book is better, but it is a daunting task for a screenwriter to condens a book into a script. I say job well done!
