The environments are easily the highlight of this game. They are beautiful, detailed and I spent a good amount of my time staring at it all. I also loved reading small bits of lore throughout my journey. I want more of this, it was great.
The characters are overall good. No major complaints, just pretty average motivations and dialogue.
Combat: Throughout my time I was so confused about the parry system. I thought I was the one screwing up. And after reading other reviews I realized everyone was having issues with the parry system. This was a HUGE issue and took a lot of fun out of the game for me. Wether my parry was well timed or not, its success was inconsistent and often fatal when it failed. Not good.
Why restrict me so much as a Jedi? The force bar is pathetic. Even late game I can only do a few force moves before I was empty. The basic saber moves eat up most of my force meter let alone the more classic force attacks, like push and pull. LET ME HAVE FUN! I want to feel like a one man army. I want to feel like Kronos in God of War or Starkiller in The Force Unleashed. I want a Star Wars game that gives me the opportunity to destroy entire armies, like you see in the 2D animated Star Wars Clone Wars series. The Jedi are supposed to be Demi-God like figures. Let me play that.
The last boss fight in particular was annoying as hell and boring unfortunately. Because I cannot stagger her with my attacks (she will quickly counter with her basics, parry, or do an almost lethal unblockable strike) I soon realized I was forced to focus on just parrying and basic auto attacks. I would force dash after dodging unblockables and that was the routine. Anytime I tried to do a fancy move I would get punished immediately and almost killed out right. Basically there was far to much risk in doing fun moves, so I was forced to just left click and pray to the Force my parry’s would register. I think the big issue lies in the parry system. It’s broken and makes combat frustrating a lot of the time. This must get fixed in the next game.
Back tracking. Look maybe I’m just dumb, but I was constanlty confused looking at my hologram trying to back track to the Mantis or another objective. Eliminate this from your game. Either allow fast travel or a button that guides me along the fastest route to my destination. Stop wasting my time trying to figure out how to travel using a 3D map with 3-5 layers of elevation.
Story: Spoilers. Won’t go deep, just want to focus on the ending. While I do believe the choice to destroy the Holocron is in character overall, it is extremely unfilling to see it done. Essentially nothing changed in this world. From the moment I started, till the end I had no meaningful effect on the state of this Universe. Yes we now have a strong band of companions, but overall nothing has changed. That is not how you write a story. I understand the limitations the writers are under, since they cannot change too much without damaging the rest of the IP (and I think this approach at the very least didn’t damage the integrity of the Star Wars Canon) you have to do better. Give me an ending that makes me feel fulfilled and satisfied. Not cheated or left indifferent.
Overall I enjoyed this game. There are some glaring issues that need to be fixed, but they also did a lot right. Thanks for all the hard work that went into this game.
