I would not recommend reading this to a child. Perhaps I’m too sensitive but two male possums (referred to as ‘men’) kidnapping an Emu and locking her in a hotel room with no food and a threat of death if she doesn’t lay golden eggs for them…ah, no thanks. This book is destined for the recycling bin, which is a shame because I’m keen to support Australian books - just not this one. When my 4 year old is ready to learn about gender based violence I will find a way, but it will not be with this book.
