Production values are good and Jesus comes across as kind and supporting characters are complex. However, this series is American religious fundamentalism in a slick package. My background is an engaged Christian but one who is aware of the cultural and historic context that the new testament was written in. So if you are a fundamentalist, this show validates your view. If you are secular or a Christian that for example doesn't hate gay people or see Jesus as affirming white capitalism, you'll quit this show out of boredom or maybe if you're aware what the bible does say, realize this is fiction trying to sell you the virtues of right wing culture wars that are dividing this country right now.
