Wow, Disney really missed the mark on this one. The casting was terrible. Peter is supposed to be joie de vivre, boyish, clever, and charming, whereas this Peter Pan is so lifeless and bland that he ruins it. My family and I have seen every Peter Pan adaptation and spin off, and this is by far the worst. My family made me turn it off. You can't miscast the main characters. I appreciate diversification and the female empowerment story line with Wendy, but that doesn't make up for poor casting or storytelling.
More missteps are the setting, film site, and script, which are just as lifeless as the primary actor himself. Their Neverland has a grey, overcast, Northern European feel and makes absolutely no sense. Neverland is sleeping in trees, adventures with Indians and pirates, mermaids, fairies and crocodiles ... full of magic. Rich in life, rich in color. Yet, they chose a grey world. Once again, Disney, why are you crying?
Go watch Hook a few times and get your happy thoughts back.
