Idealistic and preachy. Yes, raising awareness of social, economic, racial, political, etc… issues is an important step in the process of positive change. And entertainment is a great carrier for disseminating that awareness. BUT, good writers/producers have the sense to sprinkle in the morality a little at a time, not force-feed heaping spoonfuls of ethical fodder at the audience like this unbelievable bummer of a show does.
The New Amsterdam staff are all cloying do-gooders and the writers would have us believe that massively complicated programs could go into effect in a manner of days, if not hours, if only someone would have the courage to run around a hospital like a spaz and make a few phone calls.
It’s completely unrealistic, but not in an entertaining way.
