Based on a true story. Outstanding performances, a script unencumbered by subtlety. The movie is a scream of rage against racism ignorance and bigotry. Put a MAGA hat on any of the villains here…it’s a perfect fit. The by play between the leads sell even the most unlikely of plot twists. Above all is the performance of Gene Hackman. He should have won best actor for this. Watching him tear through a bar full of racist rednecks is good for the soul. 4 stars. Brilliant.
