The plot was nonsensical and there wasn’t a thread of logic you could cling to but just a rambling assortment of poorly developed scenes and characters. Here were some of the highlights: a clueless and lost white guy refuses a ride to a Latina housekeeper in distress, a Karen storms around with reacting in some pretty reasonable ways to the situations, a redneck, who for some reason, happens to own a multimillion dollar property is a selfish prepper, the daughter of the homeowner is also angry and distrustful for some reason and the deer are suddenly herding together and trying to telepath to humans or something else ridiculous. The actors had nothing to work with here and whatever messaging that was intended failed in a colossal way. Keep your world and leave this mess behind.

The original introduced key players gradually and the story had a pace and sense of timing. Raylan was the alpha in every room colliding eventually with a nuanced and richly textured character called Boyd. In this episode Raylan is being pushed around in the story, seemingly off balance in every scenario. The bar scene with his daughter was just poorly written and nonsensical. The “bad guy” is a caricature and is uninteresting. I actually thought ok, we replaced Boyd and Ava with Boyd and Ava light. And the opening scene is ridiculous. Two armed guys ram Raylan and his daughter off the road and are threatening his child and Raylan just shoots out a tire? This episode was a struggle to watch. I kept thinking of better lines and scenarios. The bar scene where the gun was retrieved from the toilet was completely unnecessary. It served no purpose in a situation that offered a huge chance for background and dialogue. Kind of like the entire first episode.

This movie failed in so many ways. The plot was incredibly unbelievable. The clumsy explanation of a crime layered over a crime layered over a crime ending was preposterous. It would have been fascinating to have told this from the perspective of Poe as a Sherlock of sorts and the main protagonist piecing together the clues. The occult wacky family thing was unbelievable to the point of comedic. The school seemed entirely too small. There were no sweeping scenes of dozens of cadets drilling or a common ground area filled with students. It felt strange and small. It just seemed like too much contrivance to pull all the pieces together well enough to salvage the project.
