Thanks to the movie's excellent storytelling about the Rockford Peaches, the series gets to skip the exposition and slide right into new characters and the historically accurate discrimination imposed on women, Black people, and LGBTQ+ people and their communities. The series makes no excuses for the treatment of marginalized communities in that time period. Yet it enthusiastically celebrates the friendships, relationships, and achievements of the characters - at a pivotal moment in baseball and (US)American history.
