I don't know where to start. The original is of course a classic. Solid plot, great casting with fantastic performances, emotional attachment to the characters and both female protagonists and antagonists. Which was, let's face it, refreshing for the 90's.
Unfortunately (and for reasons I will leave to the creators of modern film to explain) we now have a film where every male role is portrayed as a complete moron. As well as the only African American male actor forced into literal slavery.
I understand that this exact thing happened to women in film for a long time and I appreciate the efforts made to change this. However I think we need to ask ourselves if we are just repeating the sins of the past on a new demographic.
Why can't we have movies that empower everyone to be the best versions of themselves without putting others down.
Oh but I did like the end where the child murdering whiches got to be reunited in the afterlife. What a heart warming sentiment.
