I am black. However, I am not American. From an outsider looking in, I see a lot of issues. I am empathetic with the struggle of African Americans. Yes there is police brutality, yes there is racism, yes there was slavery and that should never be forgotten, it should be taught in schools. There was slavery in my country as well. The struggle of African Americans should not be trivialised. Its real. However the show depicts a world where white people are to be blamed for the outcome of every black person and not their own actions.White people are damned if they do or damned if they don't. It shows that the only reason a white person gets through in life is because he is privileged and not through any type of hardwork. It shows that if they do have an advantage they shouldn't use it to be respectful of the black person, however when they decide not to use it they are just pitying the black man so they can't win. It is trying to show that no matter how hard we try black and white ppl cannot have a successful relationship and that is far from the truth. I live in a country where black and white ppl live as one with many successful interacial relationships. How about just accept persons for who they are respect where they came from and love them regardless. To me it depicts an environment that pushes white ppl away telling them that they don't belong among black people and that is wrong because that creates the segregation that I assume you don't want. It also shows that white ppl have no right to have an opinion on racism. Why not? Aren't we all entitled to an opinion? Are they to be ashamed and hate themselves for being white? While there is systemic racism you can't go around blaming every white person you see for your life. Some of them are just trying to make it through life too with their own issues. Also when it comes to the use of the 'N' word...the word is wrong no matter how or who uses it. You don't want ppl to use it then depict it as the awful word it is and stop calling each other the 'N' word. You put it in songs and then don't want white ppl to sing it. You have trivialised the word by doing that.
