Undoubtedly a masterpiece movie. Though Ray considered Charulata as his perfect movie, but this one is no less. Hats off to the master.

A good film, but not at par with the master's classics. In fact I feel it is very difficult to make a movie which matches a great or classic story. Rajsekhar Basu's 'Mahapurush' is itself a great story in Bengali literature. Similarly Ray's first movie 'Pather Panchali' though considered a classic and path breaking in many ways in Indian cinema but still fell short of the original Bibhutibhushan;s story, which still stands one of the all time classics in Indian literature. There are many such examples in world cinema also like 'The Good Earth', 'And Quiet Flows The Don', 'Les Miserables' etc.

Oh, what a movie. A direct hit to our age old dogma...our 'religious' sentiments, at least in the way we all see it today, gets a big blow.. Of the numerous sequences, specially the scene where there is a loooong queue to visit the 'goddess' with Amar Pal's song, shakes me from the core, a thought for all the religions over the world. Truely a gem.

One of the masterpieces of Ray. Beside the shots taken what mesmerized me is the use of music and the songs,so apt and meaningful. Specially the last scene is awesome. Hats off to the master.
