This won't resonate with someone who doesn't come from the culture that produces Southern gothic novels.
It screams to be something of Flannery O' Connor's world....("A Good Man is Hard to Find" for reference.) The dialect and accents were troublesome in only very brief moments.
There wasn't much mercy from critics for this merciless film, but the cast was authentic on a whole with a showcase of surprising performances. I found negativity from critics unnecessary. The actors pushed themselves without being so obvious in doing so. If you're not a fan of thrillers laced with nihilism, don't dive in. I smell Oscar nods for a few.....
